RELOP publishes a report on the impacts of Covid-19
After the publication of the “Study on the Impacts of Covid-19”, in November 2020, RELOP evaluated the measures implemented in its member countries throughout 2020. This report examines the repercussions felt by the Covid-19 pandemic in the regulation of the energy sector, highlighting the following consequences and conclusions:
- Implementation of total and partial confinements and sanitary fences that impacted the economy, with GDP drops of around 4.3%;
- Decrease in consumption and prices across the electricity, gas and fuel sectors, having been more pronounced in the fuel sector due to air traffic restrictions;
- Recovery from the effects of the pandemic linked to the balance between world economic growth and the creation of a sustainable energy system in the long term;
- Economic regulation as an essential factor to ensure the economic and technical resilience of the sector, by prioritizing the mitigation of risks for the consumer and guaranteeing the economic and financial balance of the sector.
