Session I: Governance for the Global Energy Transition

The first session of the I RELOP Cycle of Debates took place on the 22nd October 2020 and was dedicated to the “Governance for the Global Energy Transition”, through the discussion of the main challenges and opportunities created by the implementation of a sustainable economic and energy global system.


In this session, moderated by Dr. Efrain Cruz, President of RELOP and Director of Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica do Brasil, participated 95 people, with an average of 91% of interest.

Main challenges for the energy transition

Intervention summary:

  • Discussion on the main challenges for a global and integrated energy transition.

  • Analysis of the world energy matrix, the various sectors with a determinant role in the transition (energy, transport, buildings and industry), of the security of supply, environmental sustainability and economic development and essential tools for the performance of the system and of the main initiatives and strategies.

  • Presentation of the main areas developed in Brazil.

European Approach: The European Green Deal

Intervention summary:

  • Presentation of the multi-faceted approach of the European Green Deal, enphasizing the economic and energy transition.

  • Analysis of the main strategies and initiatives, of the european governance model, of the Single Energy Market and of the National Energy and Climate Plans (PNEC).

Regulation for the energy transition

Intervention summary:

  • Analysis of the role of regulators in energy transition, as facilitators and stabilizers of the market, through the elimination of barries to the entry and promotion of innovative solutions, fighting energy poverty.

  • Creation of a system of incentives for the progressively significant integration of sustainable alternatives in the energy sector.
